WASHINGTON -- The “repeal the repeal” gang is back.
On Thursday at 1 pm EDT, a new “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) oversight hearing will take place before the full House Armed Services Committee (HASC).
For the first time since President Obama signed legislation allowing for repeal, all the service chiefs will testify about DADT, including Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli, Vice Chief of Staff, U.S. Army; Adm. Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Navy; Gen. James F. Amos, USMC Commandant, U.S. Marine Corps; and Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, USAF Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force.
Some of the most ardent and outspoken opponents of repeal will be present, including HASC Chairman Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA), Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) and Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) – who introduced legislation in January to delay the repeal process.
Opponents' stubborn resistance to repeal, made unmistakably clear during testimony at last week’s hearing, has not waned.
But SLDN will be on the Hill, actively working with our allies to defend open service and cutting through the smoke and mirrors of their agenda to derail, defund, and delay repeal of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law.
