SAN DIEGO -- Customers of Walgreens stores can easily contribute to AIDS Walk & Run San Diego while shopping through July 28.
The drugstore chain launched an in-store campaign at all 26 of its San Diego County locations in late June, giving customers the option to make $1 or $5 donations along with their purchases. Those who make a donation are able to print their name on a pledge card that will be hung in the store.
Walgreens operates over 7,700 drug stores throughout the United States and says that it is committed to providing services and support in communities highly impacted by HIV.
The company recently teamed up with the Greater Than AIDS campaign to distribute informational resources and specialized HIV-related services at more than 300 Walgreens pharmacies in heavily affected communities.
At these locations, Walgreens has pharmacists on hand to offer one-on-one medication counseling along with other support services and referrals to customers living with HIV/AIDS. Locally, these specialized services are available at the Walgreens Community Pharmacy at 640 University Ave. in Hillcrest, and the 24-hour Walgreens drugstore at 3222 University Ave. in North Park.
Walgreens will give 100% of the donations made at its registers to AIDS Walk & Run, which annually raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for numerous HIV/AIDS services agencies in the county including The Center, Vista Community Clinic, Jewish Family Service, Christie’s Place, Being Alive, San Ysidro Community Health Centers, Family Health Centers and many others.
The 22nd annual AIDS Walk & Run San Diego will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, at 8 am in Balboa Park.
