SAN DIEGO -- The American Military Partner Association is seeking active duty servicemembers, veterans and military families to join the LGBT contingent in the San Diego Veterans Day Parade on Monday, Nov. 12.
Last year's parade marked the first time than an LGBT group openly participated in the parade, with a contingent organized by San Diego LGBT Pride, following the Sept. 20 repeal of the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
The American Military Partner Association, which is a support and resource network for the partners and spouses of LGBT servicemembers and veterans, is organizing this year's contingent and hopes to spread a message of furthering LGBT military rights during the event.
This year will mark the 26th annual Veterans Day Parade in San Diego, and will commemorate the 65th anniversary of the breaking the sound barrier. Maj. Gen. Charles Elwood Yeager will serve as the grand marshal.
The parade will step off at 11 am Monday, Nov. 12 - Veterans Day - and will follow a route through downtown San Diego along Pacific Highway.
