GANEU TIKVA, Israel -- A teenage lesbian was attacked by a group of ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students in Ganei Tikva in the center of the country on Sunday, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old alleged that she was assaulted because of her sexual orientation and appearance. She told police that she encountered a group of students outside their yeshiva while she was walking in a religious neighborhood, after taking her bicycle to be repaired.
The yeshiva students called her “a lesbian” and taunted her for her short hair and masculine apparel. A group of three approached her and asked if she was “a boy or a girl” before throwing stones, injuring her in the face, before she fled the scene.
The victim told Yedioth Ahronoth that she wasn’t dressed provocatively and had been in the area many times and never felt threatened.
