Lawmaker’s gay son doesn’t understand why people think his dad is a "bigot" | VIDEO

PHOENIX — Matt R. Salmon, the gay son of U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.), says it’s hard for him to understand why people “jump to the conclusion” that his father is anti-gay.

“Yeah, he doesn’t support gay marriage, but that doesn’t make him a bigot at all,” the younger Salmon told KPNX-TV in Phoenix.

Salmon adds that he participated in controversial gay-to-straight “reparative therapy,” and that is was difficult for his father “to accept” his decision not to continue the therapy.

Last month, the Arizona congressman said that even though he has an openly gay son, he isn’t ready to change his opposition to same-sex marriage.
