Grey's Anatomy and Spamalot actress Sara Ramirez offers challenge grant to San Diego's The Center.
Singer songwriter and actress Sara Ramirez had some great news for The San Diego LGBT Community Center today.
The Tony Award winning star said she would match donations up to $50,000 through the end of the year.
Her offer comes after she visited The Center recently and was inspired by all of the services they make available.
“A supportive, connected community can make a huge difference to all who are part of it," Ramirez said. "The San Diego LGBT Community Center provides that support and connection to thousands and thousands of diverse San Diegans every year."
She adds that as a member of the LGBT community herself and an immigrant with deep roots in San Diego she believes the organization is vital to the equality and safety of the community.
“In that spirit, I am committed to supporting that work with my voice and resources.”
Caroline Dessert, Chief Development and Community Engagement Officer at The Center says they are grateful to Ramirez for her support and it comes at a crucial time when The Center is at its busiest during the holidays.
“Additionally, demand for Center services and programs has continued to grow each year,” said Dessert. “I hope as many people as possible will help us maximize this extraordinary gift by contributing to The Center’s end-of-year fundraising drive.”
The Center is asking that supporters of the San Diego LGBT community give as generously as possible during this time.
Gifts can be made online at http://events.thecentersd.org/match.
Donations can also be mailed to The Center at P.O. Box 3357, San Diego, CA 92163. For more information, or to discuss your contribution with a member of The Center’s Development Team, please call (619) 692-2077, ext. 213.
