The International Court Council raises money to help many organizations, both locally and internationally.
This past weekend, San Diego LGBT royalty was present at the International Court Council; the governing body of the Imperial Court System.
Presided over by Queen Mother of the Americas and San Diego’s six-time elected Empress, Nicole Murray Ramirez, the 46th Annual Coronation Ball was a sold out event.
California Senator Toni Atkins was in attendance and addressed the crowd, praising the court system's 46 years of “noble deeds” which benefit the LGBT community both locally and internationally.
San Diego First-Lady Katherine Stuart Faulconer was also at the coronation and was met with a standing ovation as she took the stage. Mrs. Faulconer has been praised within the community for spearheading an effort to get an AIDS monument placed in San Diego as co-chair of the AIDS Memorial Task Force.
The evening also included The San Diego Imperial Court announcement of the "Bruce M. Abrams GLBT Refugees Fund" at the Survivors of Torture International San Diego Office.
Checks were also presented to students from the Harvey Milk/N.M.R. Student Scholarship Program (founded in 1979) and Trans Family of San Diego.
Jason Marsden, National Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, spoke to the International Council and showed his appreciation of the over $140,000 the Courts have donated in the past.
Bars in San Diego also helped with the cause by donating over $19,000 for the AIDS Tijuana Fund, The Jose Documentary, and The Matthew Shepard Foundation.
Queen Mother Nicole addressed the crowd and announced the establishment of a civil rights arm of the American court chapters: The " National GLBT Network U.S.A," which will focus on voter registration and turn out using the slogan, "Out of the Closets and into the Voting Booths !!!"
State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, City Attorney Maria Elliot, City Councilman Chris Ward, former State Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, and State Assembly Majority Whip Todd Gloria were among the officials in attendance.
To end the evening, newly elected Monarchs Mark Newsome and Empress Barbie Z were crowned amongst the cheers of the audience.
