San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) is holding it's "2nd Annual Drag Race" fundraiser on Saturday, June 2. This unique show will benefit LGBTQ+ youth in the community and SCPA's Gender Sexuality Alliance GSA.

"Our drag competition is bringing the beauty and art of drag to the high school community. It's an opportunity for queer youth to explore masculinity and femininity in an accepting environment." said host and student Edward Estrada. "We aren’t judging the kings and queens on beauty, but rather their personality and stage presence. In a time when some of mainstream drag culture is rejecting transgender contestants, we celebrate and accept all genders to participate in this drag competition."

He says this is a competition between San Diego high school students showing off their talents for a celebratory evening of self-expression.

Three drag kings and three drag queens will compete to win in their respective categories. The contestants represent three different high schools in San Diego Unified: San Diego High, SCPA, and Mission Bay High.

"There may be a trans contestant this year," said Edward, "depending on another queen's availability, but last year we had a few trans and non-binary contestants."

Tickets can be purchased HERE.

There will also be tickets sold at the door on the day of the event on a first-come first-served basis. Ticket must be redeemed by 3 pm on the day of the event. Once the event begins all open seats will be sold to ticket-buyers at the door.
