The reality of unarmed African American women- LBTQ, gender nonconforming and straight- being beaten, profiled, sexually violated and murdered by law enforcement officials with alarming regularity is too often ignored – especially with the focus of police brutality on our males.
Yesterday, the California State Board of Education adopted ten LGBTQ-inclusive history and social studies textbooks for K-8 classrooms and rejected two which failed to include LGBTQ people. The state's subject matter frameworks require LGBTQ inclusion following the 2011 passage of the FAIR Education Act, authored by Senator Mark Leno.

On Sunday, October 22, 2017, a much-needed conversation took place. Funded through a grant from San Diego LGBT Pride, the San Diego Black LGBTQ Coalition 2017 Conference, “Claiming Your Seat at the Table,” brought together an audience of Black attendees, who identify as “LGBTQ”, from all ages, walks of life, and experiences.
As another strategy to reduce homelessness in San Diego, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer today announced a safe parking program that will allow individuals and families who are currently living out of their vehicles a safe and secure place to park at night, with case managers and a housing specialist to help them find permanent homes.
