Comic-Con is this weekend, and if you don't have a ticket already ... forget about it.
Yep, it's sold out. Tickets to this hugely popular convention typically sell out within days of going on sale the year before, thus you really need to plan ahead to be able to attend.
There are, however, a few Comic-Con themed events going on in Hillcrest and North Park, in which both attendees and non-attendees can mingle and get into the spirit of the weekend:
Superhero Party: Kick-off to Comic-Con at Fiesta Cantina
On Thursday, Fiesta Cantina will kick off Comic-Con weekend with a Superhero Party at 8 p.m.
Look for body painted superheros to be serving up drink specials all night, and come dressed as your favorite superhero or villain. There'll be prizes and giveaways to those in the best costume.
Comic-Con Costume After Party at U-31
On Friday, Disco Dolly will host a Comic-Con Costume After Party at U-31, featuring a performance by the sexiest band on the planet, Le Sexoflex.
Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 10:45.
Heroes vs. Villains Comic-Con After Party at Rich's
Also on Friday, Rich's will be having its sixth annual Heros vs. Villains Party, starting at 9:30 p.m.
There'll be lots of stuff going on here: 10 dancing super-go-go-boys, a special performance by the Happy Feet dancers, chances to win Comic-Con passes, face painting all night, Jell-O shots served up by Prism Comics, a costume contest, and a sexy underoos contest for those in the best hero or villain undies.
Cover is $10, $3 off with your Comic-Con badge until 11 p.m., or free until midnight if in costume.
Be on alert for Snoop Dogg, Corey Feldman and more
Word is out that the dogfather of rap, Snoop Dogg, will make an appearance Saturday night at FLUXX nightclub, which is hoping to be the hot spot for Comic-Con celebs and other attendees.
We hear that the Cartoon Network is taking over the Gaslamp's New York-style pizzeria Ciro's.
And that bad boy Cory Feldman will be hosting the "Five/Ten" party on Sunday at Side Bar.
Pride Recovery Event at Spin
We've all just survived another Pride weekend, and so this Saturday Michael Mack will host a Pride Recovery Event at Spin, from 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.
DJs Ideal and Big Chris will be there. Cover is $10; or free with a Spin flyer before midnight.
San Diego Pride in pictures
And speaking of Pride ... I want to give a big shout out to this year's SDPIX Pride photography team - Brian Nagle, David Arce, Franz Sino, Josh Rice, Trish Conner, Adam Mutchler, Eric Lahtinen and Todd Nelson - who (along with myself) took over 3,000 Pride photos at over 30 cooperating venues and events. They now reside on SDPIX, which has pretty much become the community’s most extensive and definitive historical archive for San Diego Pride photos since 2002. Great work team!
