The 2011 Atlantis Mexican Cruise just opened for booking to the general public, only a few days ago ... and it's already 35% sold out.
Until now, only passengers of the 2010 cruise were allowed to reserve cabins, and as you can see they've been doing so rather enthusiastically ... all but one class of interior staterooms are now completely sold out, and the rest seem to be going fast.
There were 2,200 people on board the Mexican cruise last year. This new upscale but smaller Holland America ship Oosterdam has a capacity of only 1900, so an early sellout here is a pretty safe prediction to make. Thus if you're thinking of going you better decide soon!
This year San Diego will be the host city (i.e., departure and return point) for the cruise. This is great news for us! Not only is this more convenient for local cruise-goers, but there should be a nice influx of hot out-of-town boys into our fair city both before and after we set sail.
I know of a few "sail away" parties already in the works for next October.
There's a Facebook group already set up for the cruise, managed by several former Atlantis shipmates of mine (including local San Diego cruisers Bobby Vannoy and Ken Suazo).
Also, you can check out my review of the 2010 Atlantis Mexican Cruise here, and photos from the same here. And for a great recap of the just completed Atlantis 20th Anniversary Caribbean Cruise, see this recent article by our Adventure Columnist Thomas Hughes here.
Bourbon Street bartender competition
Bourbon Street is trying something unique and fun tonight ... a bartender competition, with the top prize being $300, and a job slinging drinks at the club.
It's be interesting to see how Bourbon Street GM Chuck Ferrante decides to run this! According to this article, the winner will be determined by drink making ability, answers to various bar related questions (i.e., "How much are nightlife columnists charged?" ... correct answer: "They're comped!"), how good a "fit" they are with the bar, and audience reaction (hmmm ... to a "shirtless portion" of the competition, maybe?).
Anyways, registration begins at 8:30 pm, with the actual contest starting at 9 pm. All those with both previous bartending experience and connections to the gay community are eligible to enter.
And since this is a Thursday, the weekly Wet contest will follow thereafter; this week hosted by Benny Cartwright.
Active Duty returns to Rich's
Break out the camo booty shorts, boys! It's time once again for another Active Duty Military Party, this Saturday at Rich's.
As at past parties, there'll be the hot Rich's go go boys in full military attire, great music by DJ Nikno, complimentary body painting and free dog tags to the first 500 though the door. Naturally, military or camo attire is encouraged!
Doors open at 10 pm, and the party goes to 2 am. If you have a current military ID, there's no cover before 11 pm, half off cover after that. Pix VIP members get half off cover and front-of-line privileges before 11 pm. And if you don't have either of those, you can simply text SDPIX to 313131 from your cell phone, and show the resulting welcome message to get half off cover before 11 pm.
Last week's events
Last week was busy! I have a ton of new SDPIX albums to present for your viewing pleasure, including photos from the F Street Fashion Show at Bourbon Street, the WitKids fundraiser at Jake's On 6th, the Dinah Shore Kickoff Party at Rich's, the Hollywood Tan Grand Opening, Martinis Above Fourth, Kick-Ass Karaoke at Redwing, Snowball at Spin, Urban Mo's, and the media showcase night last Monday at Lips.
And that's a wrap on this week ... see you all out and about!
