Summer may be over, but that is no reason to stay indoors. San Diego has so many things to offer this week that it's possible you will not go home at all!
The Old Globe Theatre will celebrate it's 75th anniversary over three days beginning Friday, Sept. 30. Director Lear deBessonet updates the classic story of Odyssey, the Greek hero who faced giants, monsters and seductive sirens in his journey home from the Trojan War, into a voyage through the people and places of modern-day San Diego. Cost: All seats $15.
Through Oct. 30, The Old Globe will also feature the world premiere of Somewhere, a play about one family’s attempt to make its show business fantasy a reality. Cost: $29 - $64.
Several productions will be ending soon, and if you haven't seen them, they are highly recommended. Through Oct. 8 the OnStage Playhouse will feature the Jane Austen adaptation of Pride And Prejudice. Cost: $14 - $16.
At Diversionary Theatre, through Saturday, Oct. 2, see the “splendid” and epic struggle between power and nobility as portrayed in Edward II, the classic tale of England’s king who forsakes everything for his passions and pays a tragic price at the hands of his conniving noblemen and Queen. Cost: $31 - $33.
The North Coast Rep has extended its presentation of the award winning Lend Me A Tenor, through Oct. 9. The hilarious farce is a combination of mistaken identity, plot twists, double entendres, and the constant slamming of many doors. Cost: $34 - $39.
Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills invites you to get your freak on, with the 70’s cult classic Harold and Maude. Watch the fascinating friendship of a rich young man and his fearless older woman, all set to a memorable Cat Stevens soundtrack, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 at 8 pm. Cost: $14 - $15.
It's your last chance (until next summer) to catch poolside screening at The Pearl Hotel with another 80’s classic - The Goonies! Cost: Free; food and alcoholic drinks available for purchase.
The San Diego Public Library in Mission Valley will screen HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11:15 am and again at 3 pm. Don’t miss Al Pacino in his fascinating portrayal of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Cost: Free.
Celebrate the 10th year of San Diego Film Festival starting tonight, Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 at the Gaslamp Theatre, downtown. In addition to the many films, and workshops, the opening night VIP party is also a chance to see some stars up close and personal.
The opening night film, 50/50 stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen in a touching and comedic story of friendship, as one them attempts to make the most of his cancer diagnosis.

The festival will close with an important documentary that follows five kids and families over the course of a school year, and deals with a subject that many LGBT teens are also subjected to – bullying.

Fleet Week San Diego, a celebration honoring the men and women of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard comes to an end this weekend, with the MCAS Miramar AirShow on Friday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 2. Day performances will take place between 9 am and 4pm, with evening performances on Saturday and Sunday, between 5:30 and 9 pm. Highlights include performances by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the "Great Wall of Fire" and a grand fireworks finale. Cost: Free - $189.
A special fundraising event for man’s best friend takes place on Oct. 2 from 11:30 am to 2 pm. Your dog is sure to enjoy the two-hour Bow Wow Brunch on board the Hornblower, which features a special doggie buffet and free flowing champagne. Cost: $67.
Get out and meet fellow musicians, artisans, painters, dancers, models, writers, designers and just about every type of urban artists you can imagine, on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Art Lab Studios in North Park, starting at 7 pm. Cost: Free.
Calling all foodies! Bite San Diego will offer Old Town Walking Tasting Tours on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 pm. Tour and taste signature drinks and dishes from seven of the neighborhood’s most acclaimed restaurants. Cost: $45.
On Sunday, Oct. 2 from 10 am to 5 pm, head north for Del Mar’s Taste & Art Stroll. The annual event is held in the heart of the city’s charming village and features over 15 culinary stops. Cost: Art stroll is free; tasting $25 in advance, $40 at the door.
On Saturday, Oct. 1 EdUCate will hosts its third annual Oktoberfest and Invitational Beer Festival from 2 to 6 pm. Enjoy free music and games for kids, and check out the home brewing competition. It will of course feature a beer garden and food will also be available for purchase. Cost: Free admission, $20 for five 4oz. beer samples.
The Foundation for Women will host their 13th annual luncheon - Honoring the Women in Our Lives on Friday, Sept. 20 from 11:30 am to 2 pm. The event focuses on raising awareness and honoring all who work to advance the cause of women's empowerment and gender equality worldwide Cost: $25 - $65.
Art lovers may not have enough time to see it all this weekend, but with three major events throughout the city, there is absolutely a chance you’ll fall in love with the work of a local artists.
- The La Jolla Art & Wine Festival will take place Oct. 1 – 2 between 10 am and 6 pm. All proceeds will benefit La Jolla’s public schools. Cost: $5 - $10; winery and brewery tastings $3 - $60.
- The Port of San Diego will host Fall for the Arts on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 am to 4 pm. The event will feature performances, workshops, demonstrations, food and art exhibits from throughout the county. Cost: Free.
- If you are taking the Bite Walking tour in Old Town (see info above), make a day of it and stick around for the The Old Town Art Festival on Oct. 1 – 2 between 10 am and 6 pm. The festival features contemporary artists and fine crafts, as well as entertainment and wine tastings. Cost: Admission is free, wine tasting information will be available at the door .
UCSD students will take part in the Paradigm Project’s Wood Walk, a ten-day trek from SD to Los Angeles "in honor of the hundreds of millions of women" who cook over open fires to survive. On Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 4 to 9 pm, attend the Kickoff celebration that includes fire cooking demos, beers, and a special screening. Cost: Free.
