SAN DIEGO – As part of the Diversionary Cabaret series, the writer and director who staged the hilarious hit "Mommie Queerest" last April at Diversionary Theatre will offer up a twisted take on one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 1980s, in a stage show titled "The Facts Of Life: The Lost Episode."
The show, which was conceived and written by Jamie Morris and is directed by Christopher Kenney, will have an eight-performance run, from Jan. 12-22. The opening performance will be co-presented by SDPIX, with an after party featuring the cast members at nearby Bourbon Street Bar & Grill.
Diversionary Theatre describes the show this way:
Dildos, prostitution, cerebral palsy, and lesbian sex are just a few of the politically incorrect plotlines that mark The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode as an adults-only show. When budget cuts force Mrs. Garrett to leave Eastland, Blair, Tootie, Natalie and Jo will do anything to raise the money so she can stay. Anything. They become hookers (and they sing and dance about it!). Add an evil Headmaster who has a thing for Mrs. G., lesbian overtones between Jo and Blair, and you have the lost episode Showtime wished they’d snatched up. As The Dallas Voice put it, “The Lost Episode is entirely the product of Morris’ twisted mind, adding tons of inappropriate humor you would be challenged to find on premium cable nowadays, not to say on NBC of yesteryear.”
The show reunites Morris and Brooks Braselman, LA Weekly Theater Award nominees for their roles in Mommie Queerest as well Christopher Kenney, the LA Weekly Theater Award-winner for Best Comedy Director.
Kenney was recently named “Best Local Theater Director” by Las Vegas City Life’s Best in the Valley reader’s poll. Kenney is also known to Las Vegas audiences as EDIE, “The Mistress of Sensuality” in Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity at the New York, New York Hotel & Casino.
Theater-goers will be pleased with the laid-back atmosphere the show is presented in, as it is part of the Diversionary Cabaret series which was created to present outstanding and diverse music, comedy and performing arts events in a fun, informal atmosphere. Diversionary Cabaret features a full bar, open prior to and during the show.
Following the show patrons are invited to an after-party at Bourbon Street Bar & Grill, located at 4612 Park Blvd. Audience members will have the opportunity to meet cast members, while enjoying cocktails and socializing. The evening at Bourbon Street will also include a fashion show presented by SDPIX and Mankind and the weekly WET contest.
Tickets for the show are available online with discounted tickets available for readers of San Diego Gay & Lesbian News who enter the code "SDPIX101" at checkout. Discounted tickets are $15.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows will be performed at 8 pm; with Sunday shows at 2 pm.
