The Big Apple is strongly represented in this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. With Miz Cracker, Aquaria, Monet X Change, Yuhua Hamasaki, and Dusty Ray Bottoms serving us team New York, they are a force to be reckoned with. But that team has already lost two members: Yuhua Hamasaki in week three and last week Dusty Ray Bottoms was sent sashaying away.

But even though her time was short on the reality competition Dusty made quite an impact. Her signature dot-face makeup got checked by judge Michelle Visage and then Dusty had to endure the surprising Ball Challenge which is usually done toward the end of the season. That means the queens had to come up with three looks, and with it being done so early in the show, this year broke the record for having the most costumes displayed on the runway at one time; 33 in all.

The Ball categories were: Alaskan Winter Realness, Miami Summer Realness, and Martian Eleganza Extravaganza. Dusty made the most of the challenge, even enduring a steel mesh fringed chest piece that kept gouging into her skin during her final look. The costume was so painful, she became the first contestant on Drag Race proper to lip sync in a costume different from what she was wearing during her judge critiques.

Unfortunately, Dusty was sent home by fellow New Yorker Monet X Change after an intense Lip sync challenge.

Dusty took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to San Diego Gay and Lesbian News about her time on the show, her fellow contestants and her parents.

San Diego Gay and Lesbian News: How does it feel to be a part of the historic Drag Race season 10?

Dusty Ray Bottoms: It is historic and so great! The season every girl is perfectly cast and everyone really brought their A-game this year. I feel honored to be part of this legacy.

You have an interesting drag name. Where did you come up with it?

Dusty Ray was my nickname growing up so when I moved to New York I told people to call me Dusty Ray. My co-worker would always tease me and say Dusty Ray bottoms so I knew that had to be my nickname.

Who were you most surprised to see coming into the Werk Room this year?

Yuhua Hamasaki. She is someone that I work with and her show was before mine on Fridays, she made me clothes for my audition and she never even peeped that she auditioned. I was so gagged when she showed up.

You got a lot of support in the Werk Room in regards to your coming out story.  Do your parents watch the show?

No they do not watch the show but since that episode, they have apologized and we are working on our relationship.

What difficulty did you have with the Maxi challenge? What was the most painful thing about that cotume?

I literally picked hard metal meshing and that meshing was just cutting in under my arms and neck. It looked cool but I should not have put it on my body.

Do you have a boyfriend?

I am engaged!

What criticism from the judges do you not agree with? What do you agree with?

I just didn't agree that my looks were the worst. I can understand from my swimsuit look that the hat looked more expensive than the rest of my swimsuit but still don't think it was the worst look overall.

How did it feel to meet the celebrity judges?

Fantastic! I was so gagged.

Of all the queens this year, who makes you gag the most?

Monique Heart's personality makes me gag, Aquaria, her outfits are everything, Miz Cracker, because I love her wit, and Monet because I love her charm.

If you had made it to Snatch Game, which celebrity would you have done?

I wanted to do Dot Goddard from MadTV.

What are you working on now?

I just released my music video Neva Lavd Yah!

Are you coming to San Diego soon?

Not in the immediate future but hopefully soon.
