Tab Hunter was a guest at FilmOut's 17th annual LGBT Film Festival.
The 20th anniversary of FilmOut’s San Diego LGBT Film Festival is currently underway, their winner of 2015’s Best Documentary, Tab Hunter Confidential is one of the inspirations for a new biopic chronicling Hunter’s affair with actor Anthony Perkins.
Hunter and Perkin’s affair was a rumor in Tinseltown until it was confirmed in Hunter’s 2005 memoir Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star.
That story is the premise of Tab & Tony, a film produced by Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams with a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright.
Hunter’s partner Allan Glaser will also serve as producer of the project.
Perkin’s is best known for his role as Norman Bates in the Psycho franchise. He died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1992 at 60-years-old.
In a biography written after Perkins' death, Split Image, author Charles Winecoff writes about the actor’s affairs with not only Hunter but Rock Hudson and lyricist Stephen Sondheim.
Tab & Tony is only in the preliminary stages of development and no date has been set for release.
