The 24th annual Linashore Golf Classic to benefit NCLR and host Captain of 2011 Solheim Cup team

PALM DESERT -- On the heels of raising approximately $20,000 over several years for the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (DSLRF), the gals from the annual philanthropic Linashore golf tournament has named a new beneficiary this year: The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR).

The Linashore Golf Classic, with its accompanying dinner and dance, has become an icon of a different sort on a weekend where many other women are both swinging clubs at one end of the Coachella Valley, and splashing in pools and sashaying around dance halls at the other.

The activities surrounding the Linashore tournament begin on Friday, April 1st, 2011 and continue through Saturday, April 2nd. Not only has a new benefactor been chosen this year, but there is also a new location for the golf classic and a new venue for dinner and dancing.

So even though the LPGA has hosted their Kraft Nabisco Championship for decades at Mission Hills Country Club as lesbians from across the nation have coexisted on the same weekend in Palm Springs (for what has become known as "Dinah Shore Weekend"), Caroline Haines has been running a successful golf game and social gathering of her own that very same weekend, for 24 years.

NCLR was founded in 1977 by legal scholar Donna Hitchens, with the hopes that it could change the world. It is now a national, non-profit legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education.

NCLR litigates precedent-setting cases at the trial and appellate court levels; advocates for equitable public policies affecting the LGBT community; provides free legal assistance to LGBT people and their legal advocates; and conducts community education on LGBT legal issues.

Kate Kendell, Esq, executive director of NCLR, is thrilled to be a part of this year's event.

"We love the Linashore and are honored to be the 2011 beneficiary," said Kendell to the San Diego Gay & Lesbian News. "The tournament is a great time for everyone and gives NCLR a chance to highlight our work in making sports culture more safe and welcoming for all participants."

Caroline Haines (shown at left, during the 2010 event), founder and executive producer of the Linashore Golf Classic, recently also announced that Rosie Jones, Captain of the 2011 US Solheim Cup Team, will be the special guest speaker at the Lina Shore dinner dance that Saturday evening.

"You will hear Rosie speak of some of her experiences of being on the LPGA Tour for 25 years, as well as inside info on how Rosie is preparing to lead her American Team to Ireland in September to battle against Europe to retain the most coveted [award] in women’s golf team competition, The Solheim Cup," Haines said.

Jones was the only out player on the LPGA tour before she retired.

The Solheim Cup, held every two years since 1990, will take it across the pond this year to Killeen Castle, in County Meath, Ireland. The tournament will be held September 23-25th, 2011.

Captain Jones will also explain how you can support her Team USA as they defend their title and will be offering unique travel packages through Rosie Jones Golf Getaways.
