OUTSports.com to begin tracking 100 "moments" in LGBT-sports history

Forty-two years of LGBT history and activism to be outlined

The year 2011 is just barely half over, but it will already go down in the LGBT history books, according to Cyd Zeigler, Jr., cofounder of OUTSports.com.

"If there is a tipping point in the long history of gay sports, 2011 is it," Zeigler wrote in his "Jock Talk Blog" this week, when announcing the list.

It certainly has been a year of firsts, but it is not the only year of firsts -- or memorable moments -- when it comes to LGBT Sports.

As a result, Cyd and his team, with the help of several pioneers of the LGBT sports movement, will look all the way back to July 1, 1969 to assemble the "100 most important moments in LGBT-sports history."

The memorable moments for this particular list will end on July 1, 2011, including 42 full years of activity in the current LGBT sports movement.

Having already begun the countdown from 100, the list currently has three "moments" identified, with 97 to go. Throughout the rest of the summer, they will continue to add to this list, ticking all the way down to #1 and ranking each event in order of its importance.

To track the list of "100 most important moments in LGBT-sports History" along with Cyd and his team, simply bookmark this Jock Talk Blog page and check back regularly.

Zeigler says they also plan to highlight the personal lists of the LGBT sports pioneers that have lent a hand to help assemble the final list.
