SAN DIEGO -- The Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) is bringing its annual World Series women's softball championship to San Diego, August 20-25, 2012 and they need some local help.
Created in 1997 with both men and women's teams, the sports non-profit split from the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAA) ten years later and took only the women players. It currently boasts 26 participating cities across the country.
America's Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) is the participating league from San Diego, and will act as host for the upcoming World Series, called "San Diego Happens."
The seven day tournament will attract hundreds of women from across the country and Canada and take place at the two fields AFCSL calls home during the regular season, Poway Sportsplex and Santee Sportsplex. Pool play will begin on Tuesday, August 21, with Championship games completing on Saturday, August 25.
AFCSL is requesting volunteers reach out for short two hour shifts during the week-long tournament. You do not have to be a member of the AFCSL or live in San Diego to participate as a volunteer.
If you are in the AFCSL and your team is playing in the Series, there will be limitations imposed on your availability so that your volunteer shifts do not interfere with your team.
Send the following information to AFCSL representative Lisa Tinnerman at email@example.com:
Name, Team Name (if playing in Series), City, Phone #, T-shirt size, whether or not you are playing in the tournament, and all available times during August 20-26th.
Several social events are also planned for the players that , enabling them to enjoy a little of what San Diego has to offer off the softball diamond, including the Hillcrest night life and a trip to PetCo Park to see the Padres play the Pirates.
The restaurants of Mo's Universe will sponsor the event.
