The top story in almost every newspaper these days revolves around the BP oil spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico.

This is not the first time we have been face to face with a disaster of huge proportions. However, with a little luck, we may actually see some progressive changes beginning to appear.

Changes like those that come once we are reminded that our role as a citizen of this great country is, as Thomas Jefferson once pointed out, “eternal vigilance.”

We can no longer let only our elected officials; government bureaucrats and corporate big businesses "look out" for us.

One hallmark of success in life may be the ability to sustain a long-term relationship. People in lasting relationships tend to live longer and stay healthier.

Research shows that they report more happiness in life, more rewarding social interactions, and lower instances of substance abuse. Maybe the most important aspect of living within a successful permanent relationship is that a person not only feels loved, but also is able to share love with somebody else.

Several teams in America’s Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) will be playing for keeps this weekend as the remarkably successful 2010 Spring season begins to wind down.

While there are still two weeks left, several teams are on the verge of clinching either division titles, berths to the Gay Softball World Series, or both.

SAN DIEGO -- The Urban Mo’s “Ball Hawks” took home the title of 2010 San Diego American Flag Football League (SDAFFL) champs this past weekend after an eight-team, seven-game intense playoff tournament that culminated in a finale between the top two seeds, the Hawks and True North “Stunnas.”

”The 2010 SDAFFL season turned into one of the best in our league’s history,” league commissioner Jason Hefley told SDGLN. “We had over 40 new players join the league this year.”
