Learn about cyber-security

SAN DIEGO -- A free consumer-protection event, “Dollars and Sense-Tips for Teens and Adults,” will be held tomorrow.

The event – sponsored by the City Attorney’s Office, San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB) and San Diego District Attorney’s Office – will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Scottish Rite Center in Mission Valley.

The goal is to teach young adults, teens and the military about cyber-security. Participants will also learn how to avoid scams and gain tips to avoid becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft.

More than 30 law enforcement and government agencies will be present, including the FBI, Department of Motor Vehicles, San Diego County Bar Association and the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

Attendees will receive a raffle ticket at the door for the chance to win an Apple iPad, gift cards for iTunes, and designer clothing and accessories.
Attendees can count their visit to the Consumer Protection Day event as service hours.

The Better Business Bureau is offering $500 cash incentives to any organization or fundraising group that brings 100 people to the event. Contact the BBB for required pre-registration.

Consumer Protection Day is put on by IT security company ESET and the San Diego County Credit Union.
