The Center gets grant to improve communication tools

SAN DIEGO -- The Center has received a $20,000 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program grant to help finance a new website and enhanced e-communication tools.

County Supervisor Ron Roberts' office announced the grant today.

“We are grateful to Supervisor Roberts for his support of The Center,” said Jeffrey M. Wergeles, development director at The Center.

“Last year The Center provided direct services to 36,000 community members and reached out to 18,000 people each week to share information about critical resources and community events. This grant will allow us to communicate with the community more effectively, enhancing our reach, our capacity and our ability to serve the San Diego community.”

The grant will allow The Center to have an updated and totally integrated web platform and electronic communication infrastructure and enable The Center to communicate with constituents more efficiently through the main website and the multiple platforms necessary for maximum outreach.

“Since its founding, The LGBT Center has been a model of how a non-profit and an army of volunteers and donors can partner with government to effectively deliver services in our community,” Roberts said. “Effective communication tools are essential in today’s world and I’m pleased to be able to assist The Center with this important digital upgrade.”

Roberts, a Republican, is seeking re-election against Stephen Whitburn, an openly gay Democrat.
