San Diego County taking appointments for gay weddings

SAN DIEGO – Same-sex couples who want to get married can begin making wedding plans and start by making an appointment with the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk (ARCC).

Unless the Ninth Court of Appeals issues an emergency stay, gay marriages can resume in California begining at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18.

The ARCC has started taking appointments for issuing licenses and performing ceremonies for same-sex couples starting Aug. 19. Demand for marriage license services may increase as a result of the ruling.

“We encourage couples to plan ahead in order to obtain an appointment on their desired day and time,” Butler said.

To schedule an appointment for a marriage license and/or ceremony, call (619) 237-0502.

“The ARCC is committed to providing exceptional customer service and a memorable experience for every qualified couple seeking a marriage license or a civil marriage ceremony at County facilities” Butler said.

Couples are encouraged to prepare ahead of time by reviewing the attached marriage license information or by accessing information online at www.sdarcc.com.
