SAN DIEGO -- Carlos Marquez, Director of Public Affairs at The San Diego LGBT Community Center, will step down from this role next month to accept a position as the Executive Director of the Honor Fund.
Honor Fund is a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating increased dialogue and collaboration between the Latino and LGBT communities in an effort to better align their shared aspirations and policy objectives.
Dr. Delores A. Jacobs, CEO of The Center, made the announcement of Marquez's departure today.
"We are so proud of Carlos, grateful for his almost two years of service to The Center, and are certain he will be a valuable asset to the Los Angles community," Jacobs said. "While we and many of our social justice allies and collaborators will miss him in San Diego, we wish him all the best as he begins a new chapter in his professional life."
Marquez noted that he is looking forward to this new opportunity, while reflecting on his time spent at The Center.
"I leave The Center with a great deal of gratitude for the support, opportunity and education that I have received, and am honored by this new opportunity," Marquez said. "I look forward to this new challenge and to continuing the work of coalition building."
Jacobs noted that the transition will be effective April 8, 2011.
The Center has requested that during the interim period, public affairs and policy-related questions or concerns be directed to Jacobs at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at (619) 692-2077, ext. 215.
The Center plans to begin its search for a new public affairs professional rapidly and has already posted the position announcement on its website.
