SAN DIEGO -- The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) held their 2012 Awards Luncheon on June 21, where six local businesses and business owners were honored. Former federal Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who presided over the 2010 Proposition 8 trial that struck down the anti-marriage-equality proposition, was the luncheon’s keynote speaker.
Held at The Prado restaurant in Balboa Park, this year’s award winners were Chris Shaw of Mo’s Universe as GSDBA Business of the Year, Special Delivery as Nonprofit of the Year, Tim Fronczek of The Computer Admin as GSDBA Emerging Business of the Year and Union Bank as Corporate Partner of the Year.
Big Mike Phillips was honored with the Community Leadership Award, and Cox Business was honored with the Corporate Diversity Leader Award. District Three Councilmember Todd Gloria handed out the awards to all honorees after Walker spoke.
Walker, who could not directly discuss the Proposition 8 trial due to pending appeals, spoke to the capacity crowd about his history in law and the role of the justice system.
