SAN DIEGO -- As community activists across the nation organize "kiss-ins" to protest Chick-fil-A's support of organizations that are against equality for the LGBT community, popular West Hollywood-based DJ Drew G. Montalvo recently joined in the movement.
Known by friends and fans as DJ Drew G., the DJ who regularly performs at San Diego area nightspots, and his partner Jason King stood in front of a Chick-fil-A location in the Los Angeles area yesterday and kissed.
"People were not happy that we were kissing in front of them eating their chicken," said Montalvo, who did not let the sneers and looks stop him. "We all need to stand up against these bigots. It was such a shame to see so many young people eating there and supporting the company."
As of this morning, Montalvo's photo has generated over 2,600 likes, 525 shares, and more than 500 comments on Facebook. Montalvo has asked his friends to share the photo to continue to spread the word about Chick-fil-A's anti-gay stances.
Locally, a "Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-Fil-A San Diego" is being organized tomorrow by Canvass For A Cause. The 5 pm event will take place at the Chick-fil-A location at 3570 Sports Arena Blvd.
Event organizers have encouraged participants to spread the word and bring their friends to the event, while making signs sharing their feelings about Chick-fil-A's stances. They welcome allies of the LGBT community to participate as well.
In North County, a similar event will be held at the Chick-fil-A located at 3475 Marron Road in Oceanside.
