TODAY: San Diego City Council to debate ordinance to target abandoned properties

SAN DIEGO – City Councilmembers Todd Gloria and Sherri Lightner will champion an ordinance targeting abandoned properties at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 2 pm at the City Administration Building, 202 C St.

Gloria and Lightner, both former chairs of the Land Use and Housing Committee, have fought for the ordinance since 2009.

The ordinance would expand the city’s Vacant Structures Program and enable the city to take additional enforcement steps against abandoned properties. Abandoned properties are a growing concern in many San Diego neighborhoods. Giving the city new tools to address them will increase safety and property values throughout the community, supporters say.
