HBA to reveal plans for LGBT historical monument at Hillcrest Pride Flag site

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) will unveil the preliminary designs and narrative for the Hillcrest Pride Monument at a community meeting on Thursday, May 16 at 5:30 pm at The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

The Hillcrest Pride Monument will tell the history of San Diego and Hillcrest's LGBT culture in a series of panels that will be installed in a monument at the base of the Hillcrest Pride Flag located at Normal Avenue and University Avenue. The story will be told in a series of paragraphs, quotes and images. The monument will also display the names of donors to the monument and flag pole.

The history has been researched and compiled by the Lambda Archives of San Diego. The Mission of the Lambda Archives is to collect, preserve and teach the history of LGBT people in the San Diego.

HBA volunteers are currently raising money for the fabrication and installation of the Hillcrest Pride Monument. In 2012 volunteers raised money for the installation of the Hillcrest Pride Flag Pole, which was unveiled at the Stonewall Rally.
