SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Unified School District Board of Education will celebrate Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, a Madison High School graduate, with a proclamation and a day in his honor.
Gloria was also among the first inductees into the district's Hall of Fame.
"Todd Gloria has made a significant impact on society by continuing to serve the community and making a positive difference in San Diego," the proclamation reads.
The board declared Friday, Feb. 28 as "Todd Gloria Day" throughout the district, the final day of classes before Kevin Faulconer is sworn in as mayor. A coalition of community organizations, including The San Diego LGBT Community Center, are also hosting a celebration Friday night to honor the 184 days Gloria spent as interim mayor.
School board president Kevin Beiser, who presented the school district proclamation, asked those celebrating "Todd Gloria Day" to wear purple, Gloria's favorite color.
