President Obama Nominates First Openly Lesbian U.S. Marshal

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –President Obama nominated openly lesbian Sharon Lubinski yesterday for U.S. Marshal for the District of Minnesota. Lubinski is the Assistant Chief of Police at the Minneapolis Police Department, where she has served for 20 years. If confirmed, she would be the first openly gay person to wear the badge.

Newsom for California Launches First Spot in Democratic Gubernatorial Primary

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Newsom for California yesterday launched the first spot of the Democratic gubernatorial primary, a 60-second online ad calling for a fresh start for the state. The ad urges a constitutional convention to reform California's government, and will be followed by an online policy "wiki" that incorporates the input of voters and an online organizing drive.

Governor Signs Bill Expanding Resources for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Survivors of Domestic Violence

(SACRAMENTO)– Yesterday Governor Schwarzenegger signed a bill that will increase and expand services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) survivors of domestic violence. Authored by Assemblymember John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) and sponsored by Equality California (EQCA), the LGBT Domestic Violence Programs Expansion bill will go into effect on January 1, 2010.

Governor Signs Harvey Milk Day and Marriage Recognition Bills

(SACRAMENTO)– Today Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law two historic LGBT rights bills – recognizing the contributions of slain civil rights leader Harvey Milk and a bill that underscores that same-sex couples married before the passage of Proposition 8 are entitled to full recognition as married spouses in California, regardless of whether they married in California or out of state.
