The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) has a packed agenda for its meeting tonight - Tuesday, March 8 - including a special presentation to honor longtime chair Luke Terpstra, who will preside over his final meeting tonight. Congresswoman Susan Davis and City Councilmember Todd Gloria will both be in attendance to share their appreciation to Terpstra.
City Council District 3 candidate Chris Ward will also be in attendance to discuss his campaign.
Check out the group's meeting agenda below.
6:30 pm: Honoring Luke Terpstra
We will be honoring outgoing HTC's Chairman Luke Terstra for his many years of incredible service to the community. Luke has made the Hillcrest Town Council what it is today. He has led some of the liveliest public forums and discussion in the City, and he has given our neighbors a voice in their community for many years. He is beloved in Hillcrest and beyond. Congresswoman Davis and Council member Gloria will thank Luke for his service, and other commendations will be announced at the meeting.
7 pm: Community Representatives & Public Comment
• Jessica Mier for Congresswoman Susan Davis
• Toni Duran for Speaker Toni Atkins
• Katelyn Hailey for Senator Marty Block
• Nerea Urtasun for County Supervisor Ron Roberts
• Adriana Martinez for Councilmember Todd Gloria
• Julio DeGuzman for the City Attorney's Office
• Benny Cartwright for The Center
• Zach Schlagel or David Mier for UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest
• Monica Montano for Scripps Mercy
7:15 pm: Meet the Candidate - Chris Ward- for City Council District 3
Chris Ward is well known friend of Hillcrest who will talk about why he is running, his qualifications and take questions from the audience.
Anthony Bernal, who is also running for Councilmember District 3, was scheduled to attend since January but due to a double booking had to back out.
Bring a friend or a neighbor so they too can be informed about Chris Ward about his election for City Council.
7:50 pm: Call for New Board Members
Two long standing members of the board are stepping down, Luke Terpstra and Mark Zangrando. This creates a wonderful opportunity for someone who cares about Hillcrest to join the board and help "give our neighborhood a voice". The basic job is to attend two meetings a month: the community meeting and the steering committee meeting. If you are interested in joining one of the most fun Board of Directors in Hillcrest please talk to a board member to see how you can qualify. Raise your hand and make a difference.
The meeting will take place at the Joyce Beers Community Center, located at 3900 Vermont St., in the HUB Hillcrest Shopping Center. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially Hillcrest residents.
