The 55-year-old store is one of 68 to close in 2017.
The Macy’s department store in Mission Valley will be closing for good, however exactly when it will shutter has not been determined at this time.
Macy’s suffered a disappointing year in sales and as a result 67 others in the discount chain will close nationwide reports NBC 7.
In a statement the company sent out Wednesday, they say the closures of 63 of the stores will happen by Spring of 2017, with the five remaining outlets either closing by the middle of the year or being sold.
With its Brutalist style of architecture, Macy's Mission Valley has been a part of the San Diego landscape since 1961.
A disappointing holiday season is to blame for the shuttering, with business-wide sales falling 2.1 percent in November and December.
About 10,000 employees will be displaced once all of the closures are done.
