You have probably seen the videos, or read the news stories about ISIS and their violent ways of killing homosexuals, but now it appears that there is a queer militant group at the ready to fight back.

In a Newsweek article, they report the group is known as The Queer Insurrection and Liberation Army, or TQILA (Pron. Tequila) has had enough of the violence against the community and are ready to take action themselves.

“The images of gay men being thrown off roofs and stoned to death by Daesh [Islamic term for ISIS] was something we could not idly watch,” the group posted on Twitter

The brigade is a branch of volunteer organization The International Revolutionary People’s Guerrilla Forces (IRPGF).

The IRPGF, is a group of international volunteers who fight alongside Kurdish forces in Nothern Syria. That group announced the formation of TQILA on Monday.

They made a statement on Twitter in which they, “seek to smash the gender binary and advance the women’s revolution as well as the broader gender and sexual revolution.”

There is no confirmed number as to how many people are a part of the group, and no word on how many of those are a part of the LGBT community.

TQILA’s spokesperson, Heval Rojhilat told Newsweek that for safety reasons they cannot divulge a firm headcount, but say they are present.

"Many of our comrades are within the LGBT*QI+ community," Rojhilat says. "We are already fighting in Raqqa."

The group banded together because they, “watched in horror as fascist and extremist forces around the world have attacked the Queer community and murdered countless of our community members citing that they are ‘ill,’ ‘sick,’ and ‘unnatural.’”

ISIS has taken responsibility for the deaths of gay men since its presence in Iraq over the past two years. Videos of men being thrown off buildings are a common propaganda tactic.

Currently, TQILA is fighting alongside forces that wish to take Raqqa, in eastern Syria, back from ISIS, although there is no word on how successful that fight is. But the group says any victory over ISIS will be marked by three beacons.

"We will fly TQILA's flag, the IRPGF's flag and the rainbow flag!"
