A California bakery has faced some backlash over their refusal to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple

The owner of Tastries Bakery in Bakersfield said she is not going to support a same-sex wedding because it doesn’t align with her religious beliefs.

The customer, Eileen Del Rio, posted her frustration on Facebook over the weekend, saying:

“So we go to this bakery a week ago to sign up for tasting and choose our wedding cake. The owner met with us today to set up the process. Well this rude ass person says I will make your order but I don't condone same sex marriages and will have no part in this process.

Oh but you want to take my order and give it another bakery so that bakery can do it. The rude person is also the owner of the place. She don't condone same sex marriages so refused to make our wedding cake and set up our order. She wanted all our information to send to another bakery so they could make it.”

But the owner of the bakery, Cathy Miller told a local news station she won’t support same-sex marriage and that doing so would be an affront to her morals.

"Here at Tastries, we love everyone my husband and I our Christians and we know that god created everyone and he created everyone equal so it's not that we don't like people of certain groups of people there is just certain things that violate my conscience."

The owner recommended the couple go to a competitor instead, one she says would be willing to create the cake.

In an unrelated case, another couple, this time two men were also refused a wedding cake by Tasteries over the weekend.

Currently, California law prohibits refusal of service from businesses based on a customers sexual orientation.
