State University of New York at Geneseo professor is currently being investigated by the University president for making his  students play a game called “female or shemale.”

The controversy started according to BuzzFeed when students received the test that had a picture of a cis-woman next to a trans woman and asked the pupils to differentiate between them

The instructor in question is sociology professor David Sorbello who during his class on gender and sexual identity passed out the quiz.

Some students were angry and one, sophomore Jillian Sternberg, said not only is the test offensive, the teacher made some low-brow comments after she questioned him.

“He just said: ‘We want you to write whether it’s female or she-male,'” she said.

“He never said what the point of the quiz was during the class, but when I addressed him afterward he said it was partly for humor and partly to discuss sexual dimorphism.”

“He said something along the lines of: ‘Be careful not to get too drunk or you’ll take the wrong one home.’

“He would comment on some of the pictures, like: ‘I’m definitely not going to the bar with you.'”

She says Sorbello was angry that she even questioned him about it.

“He was very mad that we were calling him out,” said Sternberg.

Later, Sternberg says she sent an email apology to the teacher for the way she acted, but still emphasized she found the quiz offensive.

According to BuzzFeed, he has yet to reply. However, since this story has gone somewhat viral, the professor has now banned laptops and cell phones and picture-taking in class.

Another student Jasmine Cui, a sophomore, is involved in a campus student diversity group. She told BuzzFeed her group is circulating a petition for policy changes and sensitivity training for teachers.

Cui doesn’t want the issue ignored and, "not just sweep it under the rug."

She adds, "This is emblematic of this larger problem."

Denise A. Battles, the university’s president, said in a statement she is looking into the grievance.

“A professor is reported to have presented materials and made comments about which some students have expressed concern,” she said in a statement.

“We are taking the matter very seriously and are gathering the facts to determine if and what action is warranted.

“The classroom is an environment in which students and faculty can and should discuss challenging topics and ideas, which makes it all the more important that we gather and fully review the facts in this case.”

Sorbello did not respond to requests for comment from BuzzFeed News.

In 2014, RuPaul was also criticized for a similar type of guessing game on her show Drag Race. Contestants were asked to guess who in a picture was “biological or psychological” females.

After a backlash ensued, Logo decided to end that segment and also Ru’s opening tagline, “‘You’ve Got She-Mail’ as well as the use of the word “tranny.”
