San Diego is listed among the top gay cities in America, according to a new survey.
America’s Finest City was ranked No. 9 in the Gay/Lesbian Index’s metro-area rankings that were developed by Gary Gates, demographer at UCLA’s Williams Institute.
The index smashes the myth that the LGBT community is mostly urban and lives in places like Hillcrest in San Diego, Wilton Manors in Fort Lauderdale area, or the Castro in San Francisco.
"Gay people live everywhere," Gates said, "in cities, suburbs, and even in the country — one in seven same-sex couples live in rural areas."
