SAN DIEGO -- Symbolic Motor Car Company manager Ryan Dohogne wants people to know that despite what one might read in the newspaper or see on television, that the economic climate within the luxury car market is alive and well.
“This is a dealership where business continues to be done and where things are thriving,” Dohogne said, noting the quality, features and level of technology available and exclusive nature of the vehicles they sell support why they’re able to do so much business.
Symbolic, which has been at its La Jolla location since the late 1980s, sells new and pre-owned vehicles. Their new vehicle line consists of the crème-de-la-crème of high-end luxury vehicles, including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti.
At the top of the inventory is the Bugatti Veyron, which is currently ranked as the fastest and most expensive passenger vehicle in the world for 2011-12. The $2.4 million driving experience has a top speed of 268 mph and was named Car of the Decade by the BBC television program “Top Gear.”
Only 300 Veyrons have been sold since they were first introduced into the marketplace in 2005, Dohogne said, with Symbolic having sold more than a dozen of them. That sales volume has ranked Symbolic among the top five Veyron dealers in the world.
But Bugattis aren’t the only cars that have customers signing on the dotted line.
“In 2010 our Bentley sales were up 25% year-on-year, and it was also the best Rolls Royce year the store ever had,” he said. “We’re still having a lot of fun selling cars in the San Diego market.”
Dohogne said he’s really not surprised that high-end vehicles continue to sell so well and attributes continued sales growth to the “new and exciting products that the manufacturers continue to put into the market.”
“There’s been a lot of pent up demand for what it is we’re offering,” he said. “I think initially people were worried about purchasing when the economy turned south, but now at this stage when things seem to have finally leveled off, people are once again more willing to make these types of investments.”
If you want to order something a bit more custom, that can also be arranged. Custom vehicles, also called bespoke cars, are welcomed by the factories. This means that should you want to have an espresso maker installed so as to have on-demand coffee while you’re on the road, that vision can become a reality.
“I think about 10% of our sales are units where a client is trying to design a car that celebrates a certain moment, period or accomplishment in their lives,” he said, adding that to-spec enhancements mean about a six-month waiting period before the arrival of your new Rolls Royce or Bentley, eight months for a Lamborghini and closer to a year for Bugatti. “If you can dream it, it can be built.”
Dohogne also pointed out that Symbolic also sells high-end pre-owned vehicles as well. They currently have 61 vehicles in stock, including cars made by Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Porche, Maserati, among others.
“If someone is interested in a car we recommend them setting an appointment so we can have the car ready,” he said, “because what’s on the floor of our showroom is certainly not everything that we have to offer. The majority of our pre-owned vehicles are customer trade-ins which we first sold. We know the pedigree of every car that comes in the showroom.”
Regardless if you’re looking for something under $100,000 or over $1 million, Symbolic Motor Car Company is guaranteed to have a vehicle which will get your engine running.
Symbolic staff members at this custom, customer-focused dealership are available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm to assist and answer any questions you might have.
