San Diego is gearing up for the 9th annual Bike the Bay event.

Every year over 3,500 people of all skill levels don their helmets, get on their bikes and join their friends for the 25-mile route along the Bayshore Bikeway.

Riders will travel through five diverse communities: Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City, Chula Vista and Downtown San Diego.

One of the most exciting aspects of the ride is getting to bike over the Coronado Bridge.

All participants are invited to join in the post-ride festival with food, beverages, a beer garden and live entertainment.

This event is open to all ages and the route is primarily flat.

The Start and finish of the event will be at Embarcadero Marine Park South, near Harbor Drive and Park Boulevard, San Diego

Organizers say to plan to arrive early to park and be at the starting point no later that 6:30 am for the wave start staging.

Your registration includes: ride entry, fully supported rest stops with snacks and drinks, post-ride festival, and a Klean Kanteen stainless water bottle.

This year also marks the first time Bike the Bay will have a  VIP section.

Bike the Bay is on Sunday, August 28, at Embarcadero Marine Park South.

Start times are a choice of 7:00 am (Enthusiast) or 8:00 am (Recreationalist) and runs until 1 pm.
