It will be an evening of sharing music, connection and solidarity in the community.
Mental Health America of San Diego is formulating a community event for LGBT identified individuals and their allies for an evening of support and encouragement.
This event will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017, and will be alcohol-free, but serve healthy alternatives.
The event will offer mental health resources and honors the values of: resilience, endurance and inclusion, as a means of cultivating thriving individuals and communities.
Transgender musician and foster care youth advocate Shea Freedom will also be in attendance, participating in a Q&A as well as a live performance.
Shea suffered hardships as a youth, but eventually devoted his life to serving the community.
Kat Katsanis-Semel, MHASD’s LGBTQ+ Community Outreach Coordinator said:
“This event is ideally aligned with our organizational vision: ‘Mental Health America of San Diego County envisions a society, in which all people – regardless of how they identify – are accorded respect, dignity and the opportunity to achieve their full potential free from stigma and prejudice.’ By gathering in solidarity, we hope to find strength during tough times.”
The event takes place on Thursday, January 12, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sunset Temple, located at 3911 Kansas Street, San Diego, 92104.
MHASD is offering this event in collaboration with LGBTQIA Education and Advocacy at San Diego Unified School District.
