The couple were the first males to be legally wed in the Golden State.
This past Saturday San Diego’s Bob Lehman and his husband Tom Felkner not only celebrated their nine-year wedding anniversary, they also celebrated being the first same-sex male couple married in California.
Lehman posted on his Facebook page that he couldn’t believe so much time has passed and, “Happy Anniversary to all the couples married on that historic day.”
June 17, 2008, was the first full day that same-sex couples in the state could wed after the Supreme Court of California ruled that barring such privileges was a violation of the state’s constitution.
Bob told The Los Angeles Times, “I’m a Marine. I like to do things first.” He and Tom were both 43 at the time and had already lived together for 15 years.
Well-wishers on social media sent Bob and Tom anniversary congratulations and words of love.
In 2015, Bob was appointed as the Executive Director of the world renown San Diego Gay Men's Chorus.
Hale Media wishes Bob and Tom a happy anniversary and hope they continue to make beautiful music together.
