SDGLN Weekly Wrap: July 15 - July, 21 2017

NEWS 

San Diego Pride goes down in the history books as the most successful ever with a record 230,000 people in attendance for the parade.

However, Rainbow Key to the City recipient Brian Justin Crum didn't feel the love from an Uber driver who allegedly asked him to leave the vehicle for kissing his boyfriend. 

Locally it was learned that the popular San Diego "Thrift Trader" chain was shuttered after its owner Jeff Clark remains in a coma after a June train accident.

It was learned that Rep. Susan Davis of San Diego is being sued by one man for having a Pride flag outside her office. 

And a white woman at Comic-Con wanted to portray the Whoopi Goldberg character from Star Trek so she put on blackface. This video shows the confrontation by African American activists at the event. 

The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov was interviewed by HBO on Tuesday and said in regards to gay people living in his republic, "Take them far from us so we don’t have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them.”

MTS bus 83 through Mission Hills and Hillcrest may leave people stranded if they decide to discontinue service

Back in San Diego, UC San Diego is making plans to construct a new hospital in Hillcrest. Some in the community are concerned that it may bring more traffic. 

COMMENTARY

The Hillcrest Business Association opposes SANDAG's proposed bikes lanes on 4th and 5th Ave. through Hillcrest. And they would like community members to contact their representatives to have it stopped.  

CAUSES
