PHILADELPHIA -- In its heyday, Sisters was the spot for lesbians to share drinks, dance or shoot a game of pool. Over the 17 years it was open, it was host to Sapphic celebrities and special events that carried two generations of women from drinking age into adulthood. On a busy night, you might have seen a gaggle of giggly young women celebrating 21st birthdays down the bar from a klatch of elders reminiscing about the good old days and Hepburns, the former lesbian haunt that was once located in the space now occupied by iCandy.

Alabama judge validates lesbian mom’s visitation rights to her children

MOBILE, Ala. -- In what is believed to be a first in Alabama, a judge in Mobile County, Alabama has granted standard visitation rights to a lesbian mother without any overnight restriction on unmarried partners.

SEATTLE -- San Diego’s mixed martial arts fighter Liz Carmouche beat Brazil’s Jessica Andrade on Saturday night in a battle of two openly gay UFC stars.

Carmouche, a former Marine, scored a technical knockout in the second round after going on the attack against Andrade.

The bout make history as the first women’s bantamweight match aired on national television and the first one to match two lesbian fighters.

SEATTLE -- Liz "Girlrilla" Carmouche has already made history as the first openly gay fighter in the UFC. Now the former U.S. Marine is set to do it again as she faces Brazilian Jessica Andrade in the first bout between openly lesbian fighters in the mixed martial arts organization.

Carmouche still can't quite believe it is her in the spotlight as pioneer.

Kaitlyn Hunt, the Florida teen facing felony charges for having a sexual relationship with a younger teen at her high school, is scheduled to appear before a judge for a docket call on Thursday, July 25. Kaitlyn’s mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, posted a positive meme on the Free Kate Facebook page on July 22, declaring she will choose to ignore negativity and be happy.

Lesbian police officer accused of terrorizing ex-lover

GREENOCK, Scotland -- A police officer at the center of a lesbian love triangle waged a hate campaign against her former lover.

Heather Atkinson, 27, terrorized her ex-partner Lauren Jenkins after dis-covering she had started seeing a mutual friend.

When she spotted Ms Jenkins and her new partner Nicola Porteous as they drove through their hometown of Greenock, Inverclyde, she followed them and this led to a terrifying high-speed chase over 13 miles. The pair only managed to escape after racing away at 80mph last year.

Lesbian lawmaker running for Maryland governor

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A Maryland lawmaker hopes to be elected the nation’s first openly gay governor.

Delegate Heather Mizeur plans to make her campaign announcement Wednesday for the Maryland 2014 governor’s race.

Mizeur, a Democrat who has been exploring a run for months, also would become Maryland’s first female governor if elected, although women have run in the past.

“It’s a sign of how far we’ve come as a state that an openly gay person can be a serious candidate for governor,” Mizeur said. “But the fact that we’re still talking about it is a sign that we still have a ways to go.”

Family with lesbian teen targeted in hate crime | VIDEO

SARVER, Pa. – A family with a lesbian teenager found a swastika burned into their front lawn overnight Monday, and police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Besides damaging the lawn, the vandals left a vulgar message on a Chevy pickup truck belonging to a family member. CBS Pittsburgh reported:
