Rita’s Italian ice shop at 768 W Washington Street in Mission Hills has closed and there are no plans to re-open it. 

A spokesperson for Rita’s confirmed with SDGLN that it has been shuttered for good, but gave no explanation to why.

Man climbs billboard in Mission Hills early Monday morning

The San Diego Police Department arrested a man who had climbed atop a billboard in Mission Hills early Monday morning.

It happened at Washington Street at Eagle Street at 1:30 am police say.

The unidentified man was shirtless and barefoot, police negotiated with him to get him to come down.

One dead in early morning Mission Hills blaze

The smell of smoke infiltrated the Mission Hills district and surrounding areas early Tuesday morning.

An early morning blaze engulfed one Mission Hills home on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and another unaccounted for.

Shortly after 5 am, a home on the 1700 block of upscale neighborhood of Mission Hills was completely engulfed by flames, reports San Diego Fire Rescue Department.

Fire and emergency crews arrived to find the home burning and the roof collapsing in on itself.

Uptown Community Plan update approved

Approval of the Uptown Community Plan could mean the end of shuttered Pernicano's.

The update to the Uptown Community Plan got approved by The City Council and that could mean some changes are coming to Hillcrest and its surrounding neighborhoods.
