Mama’s Day breaks its fundraising record in 2013

SAN DIEGO – Mama’s Day 2013, the original food-tasting event in San Diego, this year raised a record-breaking $215,000 for Mama’s Kitchen, a non-profit organization which prepares and delivers hot, nutrition-specific meals free of charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS or cancer throughout San Diego County.

About 780 guests attended the food and wine event on the evening of Friday, May 10, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at the Aventine. The poolside affair featured an amazing lineup of 55 of San Diego’s top restaurants and executive chefs.

Bullies cut off hair of lesbian teen | VIDEO

VACAVILLE, Calif. -- Four girls and a boy lured a lesbian teenager into a remote area and cut off her ponytail in an apparent anti-gay hate crime, authorities say.

The crime happened so fast that the victim had no time to react, she told authorities. The attack left the lesbian teen with a bald spot on the back of her head. After making sure her daughter was safe, the girl's mother got an emergency hair appointment, and the hair stylist said it took her two hours to repair the damage. "It was really traumatic for her," the hair stylist told news10.net.

It's official: France's president signs marriage-equality bill into law

PARIS -- France becomes the 14th nation in the world to legalize marriage equality, after President Francois Hollande signed the bill into law today.

The first same-sex marriages can be held as early as May 28, 2013 ... but the BBC reported that Parliamentary Relations Minister Alain Vidalies told French TV he expected the first ceremonies to take place "before 1 July."

"Now it is time to respect the law of the Republic," Hollande said, apparently directed at critics who have held violent street protests over the past few months at the nation's lawmakers debated the bill.

UPDATED: Fatal shooting of 32-year-old man called anti-gay hate crime

NEW YORK -- Police in Manhattan are investigating the overnight murder of a 32-year-old man in Greenwich Village as an anti-gay hate crime.

The suspect arrested at the scene around midnight Saturday has been accused of hurling anti-gay slurs at the victim, who was walking down Sixth Avenue with a friend when several other men accosted them.

Witnesses told police that the suspect hounded the victim, calling him a "faggot," saying he looked like a "gay wrestler" and making other slurs. The suspect then asked the men: "Do you want to die here?"

Judge orders lesbian mom's partner to move out

McKINNEY, Texas -- A Collin County judge is enforcing a morality clause in divorce papers to force a lesbian mom's partner to move out of the home they share with the mom's two children.

Judge John Roach Jr., a Republican in the 296th District Court in Texas, gave Page Price 30 days to move out of the house she has shared the past three years with Carolyn Compton and her two children.

Thousands of revelers are expected to descend upon Downtown Long Beach tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday for the festivities, which include a festival, parties, and LGBT pride parade.

Thousands violently protest in Georgia over gay rights rally

TBILISI, Georgia -- Thousands of Georgians have protested in the capital Tbilisi against a gay rights rally being held to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

They broke through police barricades and carried stinging nettles with which to beat activists. Some posters read: "We don't need Sodom and Gomorrah".

Police were forced to bus the 50 or so activists out of the city center to avoid further violence.

Several people, including a journalist and a police officer, were injured.
