GSDBA luncheon will honor annual business award winners

SAN DIEGO -- The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA), which represents more than 800 member businesses that support and are a part of the LGBT community, will hold its annual Business Awards Luncheon to salute the award recipients on Thursday, June 20 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The guest speaker will be San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. The winners will be profiled at the luncheon where Jeff Gelder will function as the master of ceremonies.

SAN DIEGO -- The Balboa Park Conservancy and Balboa Park Central have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a first step toward the intended merger of both nonprofit organizations, to be completed sometime next year.

BREAKING NEWS: Boy Scouts of America vote to allow gay youth to serve, adult leaders still banned

DALLAS -- The Boy Scouts of America made history today by approving a resolution that will allow gay youth to participate, by 61% of the vote.

The new membership standards, which state that "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," will take effect on Jan. 1, 2014. The Boy Scouts' ban on gay adults will remain intact, however.

San Diego looks to help local breweries grow | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO — In an effort to help build one of San Diego’s largest industries, City Council will consider a measure that would allow bigger craft breweries to have restaurants and larger tasting rooms.

Under the city’s land development code, breweries in industrial zones aren’t allowed to have restaurants or tasting rooms bigger than 3,000 square feet.

City council member Todd Gloria believes it’s time for those restrictions to be lifted.

SAN DIEGO – City Council President Todd Gloria today commented about the Mayor’s proposed changes to the Plaza de Panama area of Balboa Park.

“I have consistently favored the removal of cars from Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama. Because Mayor Filner’s proposal partially accomplishes that vision and because the project would implement a temporary change, I believe I can support the requested $300,000 appropriation during the budget process,” Gloria said.
