A new poll of subscribers to the various Military Times publications (e.g., Army Times, Navy Times, etc.) may have enough selection bias and negatively biased questions toward gays serving in the military that it will likely provide support for those who do not want “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) repealed.

HIV/AIDS service-providers, recipients, and advocates will likely find a big lump of coal in their stockings this holiday season. That’s because according to budget projections, California’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (CalADAP) has a target on its back this upcoming fiscal year.

On Friday, Immigration Equality joined a coalition of other LGBT organizations in calling on Congress to take immediate action on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). The coalition letter follows an indefinite postponement of Congressional hearings on the bill, and calls on lawmakers to move the bill immediately.

The news from the New York State Senate this week was sad to hear. In their vote on a bill that would have ended marriage discrimination against same-sex couples in the state, eight Democratic senators and five Republican senators who had indicated their willingness to vote for the bill ended up voting no. The bill did not pass.

In California, we still have a state of crisis. While the number of deaths from AIDS has dropped slightly over the past several years, the number of people living with AIDS has risen steadily since 2002.

In response to recent cuts to HIV/AIDS funding in the state of California, elected officials gave various promises to the crowd.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced on Monday that following the repeal of the HIV Travel and Immigration Ban, the United States will once again host the International Conference on AIDS.

NBC News reports that the District of Columbia City Council has voted 11-2 in favor of marriage equality. Meanwhile, in New Jersey, the State Legislature is backing off of earlier indications that they would pass a marriage equality bill before the end of the year.

California has always led the way forward, which is why it was so important for our state to take a stand and honor an LGBT hero with a day of special significance.

Some want to set a vote in 2012 on overturning Proposition 8, fearing that the planned 2010 ballot measure, if it fails, could further polarize voters.
