From EQCA's Blog: The California Ripple Effect
Assemblymember Dave Jones and 37 of his colleagues sent a strongly worded letter to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger making one thing perfectly clear: further cuts to the embattled AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) are unacceptable, wrong and life-threatening.
You may remember I attended a hearing on World AIDS Day called for by Assemblymember Jones to educate on the critical need for continued funding for HIV/AIDS care.
I wish it weren’t possible that the Governor could actually consider putting even more Californians at risk, but I’m afraid we were very close to just about losing it all last year. Several very dear cuts were made, and the Governor tried to “blue pencil” even more, including ADAP.
The first step in next year's budget process is for Schwarzenegger to submit his (last ever) budget in January for the legislature to consider. This is when he’ll make the decisions that could have life-threatening consequences for our community. We need to join Assemblymember Jones and the brave 37 to keep the pressure on before it’s too late.
