CHICAGO – State Rep. Deborah Mell is raising the marriage equality issue today in the state House.
She is using the point of personal privilege to share with House members that she plans to marry her longtime partner, Christin Baker. She will argue that Illinois should allow same-sex marriage, but that she and her partner will likely have to travel to nearby Iowa to get hitched.
Mell and Baker spoke at length about the issue on Tuesday on WTTW, the NBC affiliate in Chicago.
Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the District of Columbia are the only places where same-sex marriage is legal.
