NAKUSP, British Columbia -- An idyllic cross-country ski trip through the West Kootenays turned nightmarish for a gay couple when an unprovoked hate attack left one of the men lying bloodied in the snow, begging for mercy.
Nakusp RCMP said the couple were at the popular St. Leon's Hot Springs, off a forest service road just outside Nakusp, the night of Dec. 29 when they struck up a conversation with two men and a woman who'd joined them in the pool.
One of the men introduced himself as Terry, and said he was from Calgary.
After the couple revealed they were gay, Terry got out of the pool and announced, "I'm going to kill these guys," police state.
"From the information that we have, there is no other motive that has been presented," said Cpl. Bryson Hill when asked if police are investigating the attack as a hate crime.
