VIDEO: Log Cabin Republicans San Diego says the GOP is being more inclusive

SAN DIEGO -- The Log Cabin Republicans San Diego (LCRSD) will host a reception, " Equality for Warriors", featuring Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher on Thursday, April 7, at Bamboo Lounge.

The group plans to use the event to celebrate the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," while supporting all veterans.

LCRSD president Will Rodriguez-Kennedy invites the community to the celebration.

"If you needed proof that the Republican Party is being more inclusive, here it is," Rodriguez-Kennedy said, pointing to a San Francisco Chronicle blog post profiling Gregory Gandrud, who was appointed as the first openly gay member of the California Republican Party at its recent convention.

"This milestone demonstrates the growing progress LCR members are making within the Republican Party, but what is probably more telling is that amongst the party faithful this was not a big deal," Rodriguez-Kennedy said. "There was no organized resistance by the far right to his nomination and he went on to be elected without contest."

Event attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the organization, and Rodriguez-Kennedy hopes that these developments will at least spur some community members to check out his group.

Tickets to the reception are being sold for $20 in advance, or $25 at the door and includes hors d'oeuvres and a drink.

There will also be door prizes and a raffle, plus the first 100 guests will receive a gift bag.

LCRSD is also asking attendees to bring travel-size toiletries to benefit homeless veterans. The group will donate them to local organizations that support this population.
