SAN DIEGO — As its gears up for its annual toy drive to benefit local children in foster care, Promise2Kids is looking for volunteers and community groups to support its efforts.
The 2011 Promises2Kids Give From Your Heart Holiday Gift Drive will kick off on Monday, Nov. 21, and run through Monday, Dec. 12. The organization hopes to place 300 collection bins at schools, businesses and community organizations throughout San Diego County, and is seeking hosts for the bins.
Promises2Kids hopes to exceed the 18,000 gifts that were donated by the community during its 2010 holiday drive.
The gifts will be distributed to more than 40 partner organizations including the Polinsky Children’s Center, Mary’s House Transitional Housing Program, local foster homes, and group homes.
Originally founded as the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation of San Diego County, Promises2Kids is a 30-year-old nonprofit organization that has led the fight against child abuse and neglect in the County of San Diego. The organization offers a wide range of resources and programs focused on eliminating child abuse.
On top of collecting gift donations, Promises2Kids has been challenged to raise $250,000 by Dec. 10 in order to receive a donation from an anonymous donor in the amount of $500,000 for gift cards for foster children and youth during the holiday season.
Suggested gift donations include toys, board games, dolls, books, sporting equipment, bikes, skateboards, age-appropriate DVDs, arts and crafts supplies and gift cards and electronics for teens ages 13 and older.
